Summary:
Over the last few weeks, My group among with the others in our Stem class had chosen a sport to demonstrate one of the concepts to it by describing what were gonna be doing, the techniques, and the physics. This is to help athletes of different sports excel at their sport. My group consisted of Howard, Nick, and Dante and we did "The Physics of a football tackle." Our video consists of the proper techniques to execute a proper football tackle with all the directions you need, a demonstration in game film, a walk through, and all the physics in our video. In the begging we first started off by planning what sport we were going to do, then finding out what to base our video from on that sport. After we figured that we were going to be doing "The physics of a football tackle", we split up the parts in our video with our group. The next few days we started filming and getting all the parts needed for our film. Once we finished the tackling and physics. After dante did an amazing job presented the tacking part with me, Nick did an incredible job finding and presenting the physics, and Howie did a spectacular job filming and editing our video we were done.
Reflection:
During this project, I enjoyed to work with new people in my group. I also enjoyed being outside to make this video and becoming better at editing movies. Our group worked pretty well together and we didn't have any real conflicts. One of the things that we encountered was when Howie was editing our video and finished, the next day when he was going to turn it in the video had been deleted. However we worked around it and got it finished. The part that we worked on the best was gathering all the videos and then putting them together because we all got along and it was quite simple.
There were also many ups and downs with the project. I think we all worked together really well together and we kept working towards our goal. However our group got off task sometimes but in the end we did well and got it finished.
Myself, I think that i contributed a lot in this project. In the beginning, I came up with the idea for the football tackle and got the game film for it. I presented how to preform a proper tackle in football with all the steps and then a walk through. I also helped nick with the presentation for the information and physics. I was also in every clip for our presentation.
Concepts:
When we first started to make our calculations, we gathered the total weight for an average freshman football player, which was 130 ponds. we also gathered the average weight of the gear for a football player which was around 20 pounds. After we gathered this, we converted it into68.03 kilograms. Since we didn't do real physical contact in class or anything because that would be too dangerous, all of our information is based on the game clip. The total that the player was running was 2.95 seconds in a distance of 11.43 meters which the player was running. After we used the equation v= distance over time we found the force that the player brought down the other player was 777.38 newtons. Also using the same equation we found the total velocity that the player ran in with, which was 3.87 meters per second. After used impulse which is force times time which was 17.61 newton seconds and the momentum which is mass times velocity and got 33.71 kilograms meters per second, the momentum was used in the tackle.
