Summary:
In this project, my group was tasked to each build an instrument and present a song to the class. Each instrument had to be fully explained and how it was worked, also all the notes that were added to it and why. My group made a flute, drums, chimes, and guitar. Each of these instruments were completed and worked really well. My group all contributed to helping each other. Also we all helped write lyrics to a flame song that we were unable to present because there was not enough time. My group had met all the requirements and did a fairly good job with the explaining part. I had made the horn a horn, Collin made the chimes, Tyler made a guitar, and Sage made the drums. We all did a good job making these instruments with the materials that we were given. The chimes were made with different lengths of metal piping, The different lengths gave it a different vibration length therefore creating either a high or lower frequency which is what you here. We had put them on strings so there was much resistance and they were hit with another metal object. The Guitar was made out of Three different sized strings. The thinner string created a louder pitch sound, while the thicker one created a lower pitched sound. We put these on a piece of wood and a naked bottle under them. Also carved a wooden pick to use for the guitar. The drums were more just made and weren't able to find the notes correctly. the thicker amount of tape was used, the lower the pitch was and the less amount, the higher the pitch was. Also there was a metal peace in there which was very creative and brought all them together nicely.
Reflection:
I enjoyed this project a lot, it was very fun and i had learned a lot with instruments and how they work. I have never played one so it was very cool and exiting when i got it to work. In my instrument, I made a horn out of plastic tubing that was 18 inches long. I had made 6 holes each differently placed in length to play the correct note. My instrument played an A, G, F, E, D, and C note that were placed on the tube, I had gotten these from a website that my teacher sent out to the class. We also had to include the frequencies and pitches. I had also carved a more comfortable mouth end so it was easier to blow in to and wouldn't cut my mouth or lips. This project was defiantly one of my favorites and i had a great time making an instrument. Two peaks in this project were that we all completed our instruments. All of the instruments that we created produced the notes that we wanted them to.Also we had all helped each other when we were stuck and didn't understand something. Two pits were that we occasionally argued with each other. Also could have used the amount of time that we were given more efficiently, also not asking for help when we needed it.
concepts:
Wavelength: the distance from the midpoint to the crest or of the wave. Used to create lower or higher pitched sounds.
Amplitude: the distance from the top of one crest to the top of the next. In a wavelength.
Frequency: how often a vibration occurs: Occurred mainly in the chimes.
Period: the time of a back and forth swing. In all instruments.
Velocity: speed with a direction of motion. Amount of pressure put into instruments.
